saksit_immob_70pc Dr. Saksit Simcharoen, Thailand's leading tiger biologist and former Director of the Khao Nang Ram Research Station in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, is now 12th Regional Wildlife Director. He is building a team of tiger researchers. Mr. Somphot Duangsirichantra, who just finished his M.Sc. on a camera trapping based population estimate, has replaced Saksit as director of the research station.

In June, Khao Nang Rum's Assistant Chief, Ms. Achara Simcharoen, will start her Ph.D. on tiger ecology and prey relationships. Her research will focus on the relationship of tiger home range size to prey abundance and other natural and camera_trap_lessonanthropogenic variables. She plans to work at the level of the entire Tenasserim landscape. She and Saksit are now undertaking a technical assessment of GPS radio collars for use at this spatial scale.

Three of Saksit's assistants are starting M.Sc. programs on tiger genetics, sambar ecology, and prey abundance.
