FOCUS: Outreach and Education at Huai Kha Khaeng – Thung Yai World Heritage Site PDF Print E-mail

The first step in improving the conservation outlook for tigers in Thailand is informing the public about the threatened state of Thailand’s tiger populations. Huai Kha Khaeng – Thung Yai outreach staff specialize in establishing connections with the Thai people and providing information about the current status of Tigers in Thailand and the threats that are causing tiger numbers to decline. Outreach initiatives include:

  • Leading teacher training workshops with regional k-12 educators to facilitate development of environmental education curricula, drawing upon the world class outdoor learning opportunities of the Western Forest Complex and Huai Kha Khaeng-Thung Yai Natural World Heritage Site.
  • Networking with local, regional and national newspaper and television media staff to provide accurate information about the unique natural heritage of the Western Forest Complex and Huai Kha Khaeng -- Thung Yai Natural World Heritage site and the threats they face.
  • Hosting school groups from throughout Thailand for 2-5 day stays at the Huai Kha Khaeng -- Thung Yai World Heritage Site to provide hands-on instruction in wildlife track identification, birdwatching, and slideshow presentations detailing the world-class wildlife research taking place in the Western Forest Complex and the innovative system of patrolling and protection.
